S. Fleetwood Maddox Jr MD (1932-2015)

Dr. Maddox practiced for over 35 years at the Eye Center, specializing in pediatric ophthalmology.

Dr. Maddox was born in Macon and graduated from Mercer University with his undergraduate degree. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. His internship and residency were completed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA, where he served as Staff Ophthalmologist from 1961 to 1962.

Dr. Maddox was the Ophthalmologist Advisor to the Knight's Templar Eye Foundation, Inc. In 1997, Dr. Fleetwood Maddox was awarded both the American Academy of Ophthalmology Humanitarian Award as well as the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology L.E. Brown Humanitarian Award.

Dr. Maddox has participated in medical mission work by providing diagnostic and surgical ophthalmic care to needy patients living in the St. Ann's Bay area of Jamaica. "I'm happy to be able to help in this program," said Dr. Maddox. "As a physician, I believe that it's important to extend our knowledge and abilities to those who are not so lucky."
